Huawei and technology research group Omdia have released a comprehensive white paper on the Mobile VPN solution which details the background, service scenarios, and technical details of Mobile VPN, and includes success cases from Zhejiang University, the Smart City project of Shenzhen, and the UAE. The paper provides valuable references and guidance for the industry to quickly deploy enterprise private networks, monetize 5G traffic, and go digital.

Mobile VPN White Paper

Pablo Tomasi, author of the white paper and Principal Analyst at Omdia covering private 5G networks for industries, said that considering the monumental growth of information technology, numerous enterprises around the world are competing to adopt new technical advancements to become data driven enterprises. “In this process, enterprise users come up with a series of requirements such as accessing the enterprise database on the intranet, mobile office, online conference, and online classes. Mobile VPN is becoming an ideal choice for enterprises as it uses operators’ mobile networks for data transmission allowing users to access enterprise private networks anytime, anywhere securely and conveniently.”

According to the white paper, Mobile VPN provides a smooth connection, optimal experience, high reliability, and improved O&M. It supports both 4G and 5G networks and enables enterprise users to access both public and private networks. Users are not interrupted by any login operations and can seamlessly switch over between the networks. Additionally, enterprise data is transmitted in a more fast, secure, and reliable way as data is not detoured through the Internet. As a bonus, the O&M costs for the enterprise are also reduced.

The white paper also noted that the business model for Mobile VPN is clear, since operators can realize positive business benefits by winning new enterprise users and selling differentiated packages. For Mobile VPN there is a wide market opportunity across multiple vertical. To date, more than 1000 Mobile VPN commercial projects have been deployed, in multiple industries, covering smart campuses, public services, remote office, and campus management. The white paper also gives a meticulous analysis of the success cases in Zhejiang University and the e-Government project in Pingshan, Shenzhen, providing replicable experiences for the industry.
