The Estée Lauder Companies Unveils Cutting-Edge Hair Technology Innovations at Prestigious World Congress for Hair Research

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (ELC) has announced that researchers from the company’s 2 leading hair care brands, AVEDA and Bumble and bumble, along with AVEDA’s research collaborator, the University of Bradford, presented their latest findings at the 13th World Congress for Hair Research (WCHR) in Dallas, Texas, held from April 6-9, 2024. These updates showcase innovative advancements from across a wide spectrum of research fields tailored to meet the ever-changing expectations of personal and professional hair care within the industry. The data from the research includes 4 focus areas: identifying potent ingredients and analyzing their phytochemical compositions, examining how ingredients and environmental factors affect hair fibers, exploring methods to promote visibly healthier and more youthful scalp conditions, and reducing hair color damage to enable self-expression. These insights directly tackle modern needs and concerns within the industry. Furthermore, AVEDA’s lead pharmacognosist Dr. Alison Pawlus, was honored with an invitation to present her investigation into the process on botanical ingredient selection aimed at promoting visibly healthy hair and scalp aging, shedding light on AVEDA’s science-backed strategies in ingredient development and sustainability.

By demonstrating scientific innovation and leadership within the hair care industry, the team aims to set new standards and contribute to the advancement of hair care practices.

About The University of Bradford, The Centre for Skin Science

A successor to the Bradford Mechanics Institute, Bradford Technical College, and the Bradford Institute of Technology, the University of Bradford became the United Kingdom’s fortieth University in 1966 and has continued to grow ever since. The student population is around 10,000, bringing students from 150 nations together in one place of learning excellence. After Bradford Institute of Technology was granted a Royal Charter and the University of Bradford was established, British Prime Minister Harold Wilson was installed as the first Chancellor. The role now belongs to Anita Rani, an accomplished Bradford-born television and radio presenter.

With a 30-year history at the University of Bradford, starting with the establishment of a Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU) in 1985, skin science was selected for significant targeted support in 2009, which enabled the establishment of the Centre for Skin Sciences (CSS); one of the United Kingdom’s largest centers of excellence in skin and hair research. CSS has benefited from strong, well-networked commercial and academic leadership and a very research-active faculty of academic staff with excellent national and international reputations. A strong public image supports grant awards, excellent research partnerships with industry, publications in higher-ranking journals, and conference presentations at prestigious meetings.

Most recently, in 2022, CSS established the United Kingdom’s first Skin Ageing Network with funding support from the United Kingdom government’s research funding agency. The Skin Microbiome in Healthy Ageing network, led by Professor Julie Thornton, Director of CSS, is nurturing a national and international community of stakeholders with vested and scientific interests in understanding aging with skin as the primary focus.
